Dolly the sheep

Whether or not you think a future where organs are harvested from clones of ourselves is cool, or not, or ethical, or not is important. But more important than that is Dolly.
Dolly was a sheep, and not just any sheep, Dolly was the first mammal cloned. And she even had three mothers (how's that for a Modern Family!). One mother supplied the cell (with the DNA removed), another supplied the DNA, and the third mother carried the embryo till birth.
Dolly lived just over 6 years, which was less than expected, but her death (lung disease) was not related to the cloning, but instead to her life indoors.

You can still visit Dolly if you want to. Her taxidermied remains are on display at the National Museum of Scotland.
